The J.Costa clutch is designed to provide the driver with a more direct and aggressive power delivery than a traditional clutch system. 

Compared to standard shoe clutches, the J.Costa high-performance clutch works transversely or axially, which gives the transmission system a higher speed. This results in a substantial increase in acceleration, as well as engine braking, allowing the braking system not to overheat.
